GAME DESIGN

DESIGN RESEARCH

A strategic board game that teaches middle schoolers the basic science of CRISPR.

As a student service-learning project, I collaborated with the National Human Research Institute Education and Community Involvement Branch and a current biology student to develop, design, and produce In Control, a game based on CRISPR, an upcoming DNA editing technology. Cat Dietrich, the biology student, ensured the scientific content of the game was accurate and that the learning objectives of middle school teachers were met. As the graphic design student, I was responsible for visually communicating the content in an appealing way. Together, we researched different games, surveyed middle school students, and developed prototypes to produce this engaging and educational board game.
