Clothes

AN EVENTUAL OUTFIT FOR LANDFILLS

Clothes, specifically from the fast fashion industry, make up the majority of clothes we see in stores. They are made abundantly and quickly as they follow the latest trends. To the everyday consumer, these items are just seen as cute and cheap. However, the life span of these items should be acknowledged.

Consider secondhand clothing or timeless, high-quality pieces!

If you don't see yourself wearing it after one year, reconsider.

Because of the rapid and inexpensive production of clothing, the fast fashion industry is responsible for 10% of all humanity's carbon emissions, is the second-largest consumer of the world's water supply, and pollutes the oceans with microplastics.

Shopping secondhand clothing is a way of getting fresh, yet preloved items, reducing environmental waste. Or, maybe you can invest in durable and timeless clothing pieces. Many ethical clothing brands are dedicated to creating apparel that is meant to last a lifetime, both in materials and fashion. Many also strive to reduce their environmental impact or make up for it in some way. So, instead of buying a cute shirt that will get ruined after one wash, buy a shirt that you can continue to wear, and that won't wear down.

Reconsider purchasing a clothing item if you think you're going to throw it away or donate it after one wear. Though donating is a great way to give your clothes a second life, it's also good to focus on reusing and reducing before recycling. In the long run, actions like this will help our planet and help your wallet but not having to buy more clothes than you need.
